From Under a Car to a Safe Home: Nuomi’s Quiet Fight for Breath

Winter had already settled in when a father and son noticed a small movement beneath a parked electric car. Curled tightly against the cold concrete was a tiny yellow-and-white kitten, trembling and trying to stay hidden from the night air. The temperature was unforgiving, and it was clear the kitten wouldn’t last long on his own. Without hesitation, they carefully lifted him out and brought him home.

Warmth came first.
At home, the kitten was gently bathed, his eyes and ears cleaned, his tiny claws trimmed. He drank warm goat’s milk slowly, as if unsure whether this comfort was real. They named him Nuomi, a soft name for a fragile new beginning. For the first time in who knows how long, he slept without fear.

But by the second day, something felt wrong.
Nuomi showed clear signs of a severe feline herpes infection. His eyes were irritated, his breathing sounded strained, and he seemed weaker than before. To protect the other cats and give him the best chance, he was isolated and started on medication immediately. His caregivers watched closely, hoping they had caught it in time.

Hope wavered on Day Four.
Just as Nuomi appeared stable, his condition suddenly worsened. His throat swelled, he stopped eating, and his energy faded. He was rushed to the veterinary hospital. X-rays revealed mild pneumonia, gas buildup, and respiratory stress. Treatment began right away — anti-inflammatory injections, pain relief, and digestive support to ease the strain on his small body.

The following days required patience.
From Day Five through Day Eight, Nuomi slowly turned a corner. His owner brought him to work each day to monitor him closely. He began eating on his own again, showing interest in toys, and even sneaking looks toward trash bins — a habit left over from his days on the street. Daily injections and gentle belly massages continued, supporting his recovery step by step.

By Day Nine, the change was unmistakable.
Nuomi’s eyes were brighter, wider, and full of curiosity. His breathing was steady. His energy returned in bursts of playful confidence. Through a glass door, he began meeting the other cats in the home — cautious at first, then increasingly eager to interact, pawing and rolling as if introducing himself properly.

Day Ten marked a quiet victory.
Nuomi was no longer the fragile kitten hiding under a car on a freezing night. He was healthy, alert, and ready to become part of a family. His journey wasn’t loud or dramatic, but it was deeply meaningful — a reminder that small, timely acts of kindness can completely change a life.

Nuomi didn’t just survive the winter.
He found warmth, care, and a future — and that made all the difference.
